About Nola
Nola was elected as the Federal Member for the seat of Forrest on November 24, 2007. During the first Parliamentary sitting of 2008, she was appointed to the position of Deputy Opposition Whip and was also part of an Australian United Nations delegation to observe the elections in Cambodia later in the year.
She is a member of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Climate Change, Water, Environment and the Arts, as well as being a member of several Coalition Backbench Policy Committees - Economics, Education & Industry, Environment & Water, Infrastructure, Rural & Regional Affairs and the social Policy Committee. Nola is also the Deputy Opposition Whip, the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal Bunbury City Chair and the 'Keep Watch' Australia Ambassador.
Nola enjoys spending time with family and friends, AFL football, cooking, music, reading and walking. She believes in hard work and getting on with the job.
Nola's Background
Nola was born and raised by her parents in Brunswick Junction, a small country town in the south west of Western Australia, the youngest in a family of three sisters and one brother. She was educated in Brunswick, Harvey and Bunbury.
Upon leaving school, Nola worked in a Public Accountancy firm until she married her husband, Charlie. On the same day they were married, Nola and Charlie bought their first dairy and beef property in Harvey. Nola has taken an active, physical role in developing and growing their family business which includes their son Kim and daughter-in-law Deanna. Their daughter Kylie, also lives and works in the region.
Nola has been working with and for the community the majority of her life, helping many community and sporting organisations. She was President of the local football club for ten years, was awarded Life Memberships to the Peel Football League and the Harvey Football Club - the first woman to do so - and is the Secretary of the Harvey Town Hall Preservation Committee.
Nola has worked on numerous agricultural and regional bodies and groups, was an inaugural member of the Murdoch University Veterinary Trust Board and a Director and Vice-Chair of Dairy Western Australia.
Nola was the ABC Regional Rural Woman of the Year in 1996, received a Certificate for Outstanding Service to the Community in 1997 from the Harvey Shire Council and a Premier's Australia Day Active Citizenship Award (WA) in 2004.
